Unless noted otherwise, all Kindle models available above come both with and without Special Offers. The ones with Special Offers have a lower purchase price. There is only one product: you select whether you want Special Offers or not by clicking on an option box under the price at the top of the page.
Some of these models may only be available for pre-order, but all are available to be purchased new from Amazon at the time of writing.

What a hoax. Either they only had a couple to sell or the site was preloaded with Amazon employees. I had everthing set and watched the countdown clock for 15 minutes until the site “opened”. witn-in a tenth of a second I clicked Shopping Basket. After almost a minute and a half of whriling icon I get a Back order box. I checked the Back order box and nothing. No acknowlement, nothing.. What a fraud!

Thanks for writing, Philip!
I’ve seen where some people got them, so I don’t think it was a hoax. There could have been ten thousand people clicking the button at the same time you did…my guess is internet speed may have mattered. I know that may have been frustrating, but it”s the way Black Friday works…Amazon said the quantities were limited. I guess the option was that they could have just not had the sale…but then, I think people would have complained that they didn’t have a Black Friday sale.
November 26, 2010 at 9:02 pm |
I had exactly the same experience as Phillip. Perhaps you got some advantage if you hadn’t ordered a Kindle previously. We have six on our account now so I guess I shouldn’t complain. I wanted on for a Christmas gift for a family member but….

Thanks for writing, Vandan!
It’s an interesting article, and I’m happy to see that the author did the research.
It depends very much on what you like to read. I save the cost of my Kindle very year by getting e-books, but that isn’t going to be the same for everyone.

Thanks for the tip on the K2s, I think I got the last one. We ordered a K3 for my boss and I got to play with it before wrapping it and frankly I didn’t like it as well as my K2. Now my husband will have one.
Thank you!

Thanks for writing, Carmen!
Great, glad I could give you the heads-up!
It still seems to be available…
February 7, 2011 at 6:17 pm |
I agree with Carmen, the K2 seems to be more comfortable for me. One of my colleagues has a K3 and we compared it. We both feel that the K2 is better although it´s of course also a question of personal taste. I for myself are anyway satisfied with playing with my K2
February 7, 2011 at 7:23 pm |
Thanks for writing, Frank!
The K3 has advantages for me (particularly the wi-fi) that outweight the form factor of the K2. I’ve gotten used to the K3, and it too disappears when I read…

Mr. Calvin- I don’t think this is the correct spot to ask this question but I didn’t know where else to post… my apologies… If you have the time/interest would you be able to address Duokan? i have read it mentioned in a comment or two on the forum but I’m not sure if it voids the warranty. Or if it’s even worth it. Some ppl with a DX (which I own) are apparently using the Duokan software since we didn’t get the update… Any feedback?
Thanks,
-Morgan

Can’t figure out how else to contact you so here I am!
I just purchased your e-book of Frequently Asked Questions and immediately picked up a couple of useful pointers BUT you need to revise the section on Folders. ‘Nuff said.
April 16, 2011 at 4:30 pm |
Thanks for writing, Rick!
Yes, I mentioned that myself in a recent post about lowering the prices.
It does need to be revised…I do go back and revise posts here, but it’s much more complicated to republish a title to the Kindle store.
I’ve thought about pulling the older titles altogether, but as you mentioned, I think this one still has value. If the obsolete nature of that makes it not worth the ninety-nine cents, you can return it within seven days of purchase for a refund.
You may find this post on Collections helpful:
http://ilmk.wordpress.com/2010/06/18/frequently-asked-kindle-questions-special-collections-edition/
It could probably stand to be updated as well…I haven’t reviewed it in a while, but it should help. If you have any questions about Collections, feel free to ask.

Love the blog. But can I make a nitpicking remark about the format? Since you have stickied the Currently available Kindle and Apps at the top of the column, and you are working with wide margins it means that very little of the actual blog is readable when the page opens. I have to admit that as I make my daily website rounds I now often skip reading yours because the text that is immediately visible isn’t long enough to draw me in. Yup – shallow of me. But maybe others feel the same.
April 20, 2011 at 8:47 pm |
Thanks for writing, Rita!
I really appreciate the feedback.
I don’t see the margin problem personally, when I’m browsing. I can see all of the text fine…and I do use a few different browsers. However, I can look at that…not sure how to change the margin width.
As to the sticky….even though I really don’t sell very many Kindles (I think my readers tend to already have them), it is part of what makes this possible for me to do. I don’t do advertising on the blog (to Google’s disappointment, I’m sure).
I think the announcement of available Kindle blogs (and the free apps) is reasonably non-intrusive and on target, but I do understand. It does not show for people who subscribe on their Kindles, so that’s another option. I suspect if you RSS, you also don’t see it.
Thanks again! I’ll look at the margins, but it may not be for a couple of days.

First, I apologized if this is not the proper place to write to you;
Second, Love having ILMK delivered; and
Third, Last week I sent a message to you about having new “sleeping photos” on my Kindle. I was wrong and apologize for that wrong information. The two “new” were some that rarely show up.
Enjoy your travels.

Thanks for writing, Vicki!
This is a reasonable place to write to me.
For general comments, it’s best to comment the About page, but this works.
Thanks for the kind words! I’m very grateful to subscribers.
I appreciate you getting back to me with that. Not everybody follows up, and I’d rather get things answered than have the stay out there as a loose end.
Believe it or not, though, all the sleep mode pictures (screensavers) show up a equal amount. The Kindle just rotates through a list. If you have a Kindle 3, you can see the list here:

Is the US kindle 110 only or 220 also? I read that a converter is not necessary for modern electronic devices when traveling–does this include phones? Hmmm not sure I buy that. I know that Europe has different plugs, but don’t you need a converter, too? Or am I just old school!?! Thanks.
June 7, 2011 at 5:51 pm |
Thanks for writing, Carol!
All Kindles are “universal voltage”…they go from 100 to 240. That means a converter (or transformer) is not necessary. However, you may need a plug adapter to fit it in the wall.
That is true of some other modern electronics as well.
Since the Kindle 2, you’ve also been able to charge the through USB.

Hi,
Finally got around and took the plunge, clicked through your new 3G w/special offers link and added a cover too (well and some Atkins shakes) Monday evening.
Any advice on screen protectors or are they really needed with my cover? My eight-year-old wanted me to get the red M-Edge Latitude Jacket and, since it was a Father’s Day gift, opted for it instead of the Marware Eco-Vue I did have eye on.
June 8, 2011 at 12:34 am |
Thanks for writing, Bob!
Great, thanks!
I don’t think a screen protector is necessary, personally. I’ve never heard of anybody scratching a Kindle screen. Breaking it, maybe, but not scratching it. The bigger risk is putting pressure on it, from what I’ve heard, and the screen protector won’t help you there. I
I’ve liked M-Edge very much in the past…I think your 8-year old has good taste.
June 14, 2011 at 11:46 pm |
Absolutely love the Kindle, the 3G (yeah, I can check email and my Yahoo page relatively easy) and the M-Edge color (I think I like the zippered aspect). I’ve already loaded up some Sunshine books and used Amazon’s free conversion email for some .pdf books I had, all with no problem.
I did have another question if you don’t mind. I was looking at some of the active content and was curious about Notepad vs. Sticky Notes and the dueling calculators (if this one is even necessary). Would you recommend these? And, if so, do you have a preference between 7 Dragons and Mobigloo products?
Thanks again.
June 15, 2011 at 12:33 am |
Thanks for writing, Bob!
I’ve used Notepad, but haven’t used Sticky Notes, so I can’t compare. Notepad is from 7 Dragons, and Abhi of IReaderReview is connected to that. That’s a good recommendation to me.
I have some correspondence with Abhi, but don’t otherwise know him.
I wrote about that one here:
http://ilmk.wordpress.com/2011/03/17/new-kindle-app-notepad/
As to the calculator apps, I haven’t personally seen the need.
I wrote a little bit about Easy Calculator here:
http://ilmk.wordpress.com/2011/01/30/brain-bump-easy-calculator/
That also mentions using your Kindle as a calculator…as is (no app). It only does simple operations that way, but it works.
Go to your Homescreen.
Do Alt+W, then sym, then +2= (so you get 2+2=….Alt+W enters a two and gets the process started). Then hit enter, and you’ll see the result at the top.

If I pre-order new Kindle now, when will be the possible shipping date. Can I somehow know, what is my number in the queue?
I’m not a US citizen and my friend from US is going to visit me at the beginning of December. I need to know if there is a chance to receive it before that.
Thanks in advance for any information.
November 4, 2011 at 10:35 pm |
Thanks for writing, Julia!
There isn’t a Kindle right now that I would expect to take until December to get.
The $79/$109 Kindle is in stock
The Kindle Keyboards are in stock now
The Kindle Fire will be released November 15
The Kindle Touches will be released November 21
The delivery date would be affected by what shipping method you chose, where it was being sent, and if there is any kind of waiting list. I’m guessing that you could do speedy shipping with the Fire and get it within a few days of the release date.
That said, when you say you are not a US citizen…will the Kindle be on the account of someone who resides in the USA? That can affect things, like book availability.
November 11, 2011 at 1:07 pm |
Bufo, did you see this latest promotion? Subscribe to Audible and get $100.00 off a qualifying Kindle. It looks like everything but the Fire qualifies. I’ve been a happy Audible subscriber ever since they first came out.
Carol
p.s. Love your blog! Keep up the good work.
