I’m probably in the minority here, but the whiter the background gets and the blacker the type gets, the more the Kindle becomes exactly like a book page. Unfortunately, it is that sharp contrast that triggers the double vision that made it almost impossible for me to read before the Kindle came along.

They do give typeface choices, which is the only real way to address that with an E Ink screen at this point. It’s interesting: I don’t think I’ve heard many people say they would like less contrast on an EBR…might be worth a poll at some point.

Ugh! I don’t want more contrast. I want LESS contrast. My biggest complaint about the current generation of Kindles vs the Kindle 1 is that I prefer the gentler, thinner fonts and reduced contrast on the Kindle 1. If they need to mess with contrast, they should give a choice between higher and lower contrast they way they give a choice between landscape or portrait!

Good point. I didn’t mean to suggest they were de-emphasizing one Kindle over another.

You know, I may edit that.

I just checked, and the Touch is selling better in the USA, although the Mindle is second. Now that the Touch is available in more countries, maybe that perspective should be changed.

Hi Bufo. Thanks for the heads up on this. I’m not sure that I agree that Amazon is making the Mindle the main RSK though. It is true that this is the first RSK to get parental controls, however, the Kindle Touch was the first RSK to get support for KF8 (Kindle Format 8) in the update it received a couple months ago. Maybe Amazon doesn’t particularly care which RSK is the “main” one lol. Anyway, thanks for the article, I look forward to reading more.
