New Amazon ad shows the new Kindles?
I’m so excited about Amazon’s presser (press conference) at 10:30 AM this morning! I’ve prepped a post I’ll send out later, as soon as I can, but I thought you might be interested in this new Amazon ad in the meanwhile:

I like this one! Although it doesn’t have a lot of information, I think it’s good at laying out the Amazon vision. Here’s an excerpt:
“…what once seemed wildly impractical is now completely normal…”"
I think people may comment on the line that completes that.
I think it’s well-written, and realistic. It doesn’t just show young hipsters, for one thing.
Can you see the new Kindles? Hey, they aren’t going to release the ad and then have to reshoot it. There’s an interesting shot at about 30 seconds, that (I think) shows the Paperwhite display.
I didn’t see anything that looked like a larger tablet, but it’s tough to tell…what do you think?

I can’t wait. It looked to me like that was a 10″ screen but it was hard to tell. The kindle also looked black to me but I am color blind. I also want to say Bufo that we sure do appreciate you. Thank you for all you do.

Thanks for writing, Phink!
I have some color vision deficiency also…so I try not to guess if something is dark blue or black…or grey or green…or orange or brown…or…

I thought the Fire at about 34 seconds was a larger tablet, but it’s hard to be sure as the their isn’t much perspective in that shot.

Thanks for writing, D.!
Yes, tough to tell, although I think a ten-incher would be apparently different. I guess we couldn’t count on them holding up a ruler, huh? I do have a ruler app on my Fire, actually…
EZ Ruler (Kindle Fire Edition)
We’ll know in about three hours!

I agree that one Fire looks larger than our current one. Will expect one the announcements are made, they might have a comercial that is geared more to showing us more obviously the new and improved? Now the tough part is to convince my husband that its essential I have yet another Kindel!

Thanks for writing, Zebras!
Yes, there may certainly be more commercials later.
It’s easier for me to convince my Significant Other, since I “need” them to write about them in the blog, right?
I will say that I wouldn’t get one that required a data plan if there was an equivalent that didn’t, though…I don’t think that’s necessary for me.

that wasn’t a Kindle fire they were showing with the color display. It was too thin.

Thanks for writing, Lona!
Thinner than the now sold-out model…but thinner than an iPad?
September 6, 2012 at 1:46 pm |
It is a Fire; the Fire needed to slim down because it’s too chunky in the first version. When I saw the video, I was pleased to see I’m not the only one who reads their Kindle while brushing their teeth. I think Bufo once said that he did, too. Bufo?

Great memory! I had to look myself…I wrote about that back in 2010:

I thought I saw 2 sizes there! Hope, hope! I does look thinner than the existing (sold out Fire) and seems to be tapered around the edges, similar to the iPad. I’m so excited can’t wait to see what they have to offer. I will get one for sure, if they are larger. OR, maybe just buy myself an early Christmas present. : )

Its a long shot but I thought the shot showing a moleskin with some drawings of an e-reader. What’s interesting: could this be a multi-layer Kindle?
(15 seconds into the commercial)

A 10 inch Kindle Fire could be a commercial unto its own. Just because its not shown doesnt mean its not coming.
This was as much an Amazon commercial as a Kindle commercial.

Well, I was travelling on my drive up and down the eastern seaboard to NYC and back. At the time of the announcement, I was sorta on my way home on the VA/NC border — so I pulled into the parking lot of a Denny’s; pulled out my KF and watched a couple of live blogs of the event.
Since I had used a fair amount of Denny’s bandwidth doing this, and since I wanted to get the snap feedback from the media attendees, I went inside, had myself a plateful of ham ‘n eggs, read some instant reviews before continuing on my way.
I’m outside Atlanta as I write this at my brother’s (Sat AM). I’ll have some more pertinent comments on the actual announcement on your post on the announcements (which I haven’t read yet — as I’m going at this in timeline order, and I’m 2 days behind).
I found the differing announcement approaches of Amazon/Bezos vs Nokia/MS//Elop/Balmer (which announced some phones the day before) very enlightening — IMO Amazon did a far better job. Bezos is clearly the presentation successor to Jobs.

Bezos has a great personality for presentations and interviews, and a great laugh. If you have not heard him laugh, you are in for a treat. The man is extremely likeable, more so than Steve, genius though he was.

Jeff has had the reputation of being “goofy” in the past (I didn’t see that as a negative, by the way, but it was intended that way).
I thought he was really good on September 6th…the best he’s done. He was comfortable, and still enthusiastic. I’ve taught presentation, and for a non-professional presenter, he was good.
