Flash! Kindle for PC available now

Kindle for PC available now!

Just a quick news flash: Kindle for PC is now available for free download

You don’t have to have a Kindle, and you can buy and read Kindle books (not subscription items) on your PC.

More information in this earlier post.

They do say “Mac version coming soon”.

I don’t know yet if each PC counts as one of your device licenses for a book…I’ll let you know by updating this post when I’ve had a chance to check.

UPDATE: The help information is up now here.

Kindle for PC does count as a device license…although I still don’t know if it is each PC.  My guess reading the help information is that each computer does use a license, but it could be that it is one license for the whole program.  Amazon says:

“Most books you purchase from the Kindle store may be simultaneously accessed for your personal use on up to six Kindles or Kindle-compatible devices (such as Kindle for PC or Kindle for iPhone) registered to your Amazon.com account.”

Each iPhone does count as a separate device…

Device licenses increased for DTP?

I just noticed that the devices for all of my books, which are published through Amazon’s Digital Text Platform, have gone to unlimited device licenses.  Books through that service used to be set to six (although it was five for awhile), but that appears to have changed.  Might be temporary…
