Flash! Sharper Image Literati only $39.95 at Bed Bath & Beyond online

This is a clearance…it won’t last.

Sharper Image’s Literati EBR (E-Book Reader) is only $39.95 at Bed Bath and Beyond online:

It’s important to note that this is a backlit LCD device.   That’s not going to be like reading on a Kindle, but as a starter EBR or as a second device, this might be a good bet.

Also, it is likely to be compatible with your local public library (it uses Adobe Digital Editions to read Digital Rights Management protected EPUB and PDF formats).

One other important note: it appears that you must have wi-fi available to fully use it…it doesn’t use USB transfer.   I’ve also read online that a public open wi-fi spot may not work…I haven’t verified that, though.

It is “powered by Kobo”…you’ll be able to get books from http://www.kobobookscom .

I expect this to blow out at this price…don’t wait if you want one.

After this is gone, you will probably be able to get it other places…but not necessarily at this price.

Here’s the

User’s Manual

and here’s the

Literati Official Site

If you do get one (or already have one), feel free to let me know what you think.

Hi Bufo: Got one – everyone who owns a kindle should get a literati so that they can truly appreciate their kindle! I wanted the literati because you can do Adobe digital reader books that I can buy through Powells (an actual independent bookstore…) and the library.

Oh man, is this thing a piece of poorly designed tech that screams cheap… from the lethal packaging, to the awful buttons, to the cheapo case that makes it hard to push the bad buttons, to the counter-intuitive, non-user-friendly software….

I think I can stand using it to read my existing adobe books… but I’m certainly not going to buy tons of books from powells now and read them on my literati.

You get what you pay for… 🙂 Kathy

      Thanks for writing, Kathy!

I appreciate that field report. When you say you get what you pay for, though, it’s worth noting that the list price of the Literati is higher than that of the 3G & wi-fi Kindle. It’s $199.99. If you buy a Literati through Amazon, it’s still $110.

Price isn’t always an indicator of quality…

Have you checked out your library’s e-book collection yet?

    Bufo–
Thanks for the heads up on the Literati. I originally ordered one from the BBB website. Then realized there was a $10.00 off coupon in my purse. So I cancelled that order after checking availability in my local BBB store. They had some in stock and said I could use my coupon. So I got one the next day for $32.00 (No shipping). The total saved was $19.00.
Downloading the software updates took a while but the reader works fine. the 2 fonts and serif and sans serif. Both are easy to read.
This will be my Library rental and free classics reader.
The K2 I have is superior and will be my primary reader.

That’s great! I’m glad I could let you know and that you got such a good bargain. 🙂
