Kindle Fire 8.9″ $50 off from Amazon, limited time
This one is going to go away quickly!
The
Kindle Fire HD 8.9″, Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 16 GB – Includes Special Offers
is $50 off from Amazon today only, and you need to use a special code (FIREHD89) at checkout.
Important note: do not use 1-click to buy the item! You won’t have a chance to enter the promo code.
This is also while supplies last, so I wouldn’t wait around at all if you want one.
It’s good on both the 4G model (it brings the net price from $499 to $449) and the wi-fi only model (from $299 to $249).
Here are the terms and conditions:
Terms and Conditions
• The promotion is valid for a limited time only. Amazon reserves the right to modify or cancel it at any time.
• If you do not purchase the qualifying item when the promotion is in effect, the promotional code will not apply.
• The promotion is limited to one per customer.
• The promotion applies only to Kindle Fire HD 8.9” and Kindle Fire HD 8.9” 4G LTE Wireless devices sold and shipped by Amazon Digital Services. It does not apply to the same products sold by other sellers.
• If you return items purchased using a promotion code, we will subtract the value of the promotion code from your return credit.
• Promotion codes may not be combined with other offers.
• Does not apply to orders placed with 1-Click.
• Offer good while supplies last.
• Void where prohibited.
• If you violate any of the Terms and Conditions, the promotion will be invalid, and the promotional code discount will not apply.
If you did buy one in the last thirty days, you could hypothetically return it and buy another one that has the discount. I’m not seeing anything so far about an easy way to do a credit instead (that has happened sometimes in the past). It wouldn’t hurt to contact Kindle Customer Service and see what they say, though. If they give you one, I’d appreciate knowing about that. 🙂

You can read my opinion of the 4G model after a week of use in this earlier post.
Again, if you want to get one, I’d jump on this offer before it ends.

Bufo:
So tempting! I have to stop looking at the deal. LOL Would love the larger screen, but have to be reasonable, my original Fire works beautifully and looks good, and we are trying to be conscientous with our finances!

Thanks for writing, Zebras!
I do see some significant advantages for the 2nd gen Fires over the first one (hello, Ivona text-to-speech…and I like the e-mail a lot better), but if you like what you have, then it makes sense to stay with it in many cases.

Bufo: Thanks for the tip. The $50 discount was just the incentive I finally need to make the purchase. Like many others I have been satisfied with my 7″ Fire. Now it will be easier to give the 7″ to our daughter for her owh–she has used it for some time (perfect for a 5 year old), with the addred benefit of more confortable reading of my PDF files and magazines. Also a chance to see how reading books works out as part of the process of deciding whether to get the Kinder Paperwhite. Thanks again.

Thanks for writing, Lloyd!
I saw something I thought would make a great commercial the other day. I was walking out of a store, and in a big parking lot. There was a shopping cart facing me, and a presumed Mom unloading it. Sitting in the cart was maybe a three or four year old child. I couldn’t see much of the child because of the stuff in the cart. As I passed it, I saw that this little kid was intently using an iPad… 🙂

I was sooo disappointed when I saw that Gold Box this morning – why oh why didn’t I wait to order my 4G? Thankfully, I read the comments on your posting and decided to call Amazon. After a very long hold time, the nice lady found a way to give me a refund on my order. (There was a mention that my order was older than 30 days, so I was about to discuss with her about the date I actually received the Fire, but she worked it out.) Funny thing is, she was apparently unaware of the Gold Box deal; I had to explain it to her a couple of times first.
I think if they hadn’t worked out the rebate for my case, I would have felt just a bit negative towards Amazon and my Fire, but they have proven once again that they’re a good company to work with. However, I do recognize that they did not “owe” me the rebate; I took the chance when I bought it that the price could go down later. That’s why I really didn’t want to consider returning my Fire – the only problem I have had with it so far was that rebate today!

Thanks for writing, liz!
I really don’t react like that myself…I’m usually excited for the other people when they get something cool which wasn’t available to me. I know, that makes me pretty weird. 🙂
