Heads up: Fire LTO. 256 GB drive at 530 Pacific

Amazon: Upcoming Limited-Time Special Offer on Kindle Fire: 256 GB Solid State Drive for $49. Deal starts at 8:30 PM ET/5:30 PM PT.

Update: sorry I had to be really brief on this one! Not only was I on my phone, but I was in a place where I couldn’t speak out loud…so I couldn’t use speech-to-text! That really limited my ability to input the information. In fact, all I did was copy and paste the text I got (see below) into the post. I was really in the middle of something…

These are special limited time offers, which are only available to Kindle Fire owners.

What happens is you can get a text to alert you to an upcoming deal (details in the links below). You don’t get much warning…maybe an hour (about half an hour in this case).

The deal also appears on the sleep screen of your Fire, and you can find it under Offers on the homescreen (all the way at the end).

Then, you say you want to “learn more”. You’ll get to a screen with a countdown clock. As soon as the clock gets to zero, you need to click to have a chance to get it.

They have typically been selling out in seconds.

Here is information on the program:

As I’ve written before, I look at these LTOs (Limited Time Offers) sort of like buying a lottery ticket: I don’t expect to get one (win), but its exciting if I do! Of course, the “ticket” doesn’t cost me anything.

These LTOs are one of the best arguments for having Special Offers…and yes, a good argument for having a  Fire (at AmazonSmile)!

Did you get one? Do you have any other comment on this? Feel free to let me and my readers know by commenting on this post.

One more thing: I’ve had a couple of readers say that they never even saw the offer. As far as I know, these go out to every eligible Kindle Fire in the USA. A few possibilities occur to me:

  • They either bought a Kindle Fire without Special Offers, or bought out of the offers later. You have to be subscribed to those in order to get these deals
  • They weren’t connected to wireless in time for it to update
  • They didn’t check the Offers tab (I don’t always see it on the sleep screen)

It might not have been any of those, but those three would have done it.

* I am linking to the same thing at the regular Amazon site, and at AmazonSmile. When you shop at AmazonSmile, half a percent of your purchase price on eligible items goes to a non-profit you choose. It will feel just like shopping at Amazon: you’ll be using your same account. The one thing for you that is different is that you pick a non-profit the first time you go (which you can change whenever you want)…and the good feeling you’ll get. :) Shop ’til you help! :)

It is now 8:38 PM and this special offer has not appeared on my Kindle Fire. Earlier this afternoon it appeared on my Kindle only to be removed from special offers moments later. Color me confused.

      Thanks for writing, Denise!

Did you check the Offers tab on your Fire? The sleep screen might have rotated to another offer, although I think these tend to sit there, at least when it gets close. What’s your timezone?

    Didn’t see it here.

I saw the offer on my Fire’s lock screen about 20 minutes before the sale began, so I was ready to buy it then. Noting that there are around 25 ‘offers’ at any given time, it was just good luck this one happened to be displayed, as I would imagine the supply (7,000) went fast.

I’m not sure that these rotate out, at least when it gets close. I’ve got 22 offers right now, but I know it was displayed on the lock screen at around offer time.

Saw it on the lock screen… went strait to Offers and nothing there.

Update to my comment: I have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 with special offers. I was connected to wifi, and received a text message on my phone about an hour before the LTO was to begin. At 8:30 PM ET I checked the lock screen, but there was no LTO. I checked the Offers tab on the Home screen several times and the LTO was not there either. I continued checking the lock screen as well as the Offers tab with no success. I called customer service and the customer rep recommended syncing my Fire. She basically told me there are times when the LTO may not reach everyone. She said 9 times out of 10 syncing will correct the problem. Once I did the sync the LTO appeared under the Offers tab.

    • Denise Says:

I have missed a couple past LTOs because I never received the text message alerts.

I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen!

I really appreciate that report! That might be useful for other people in the future.

You could have also tried restarting the KFHD: hold in the power button until it shuts down and keep holding it until you see the Kindle Fire words again (usually about thirty seconds). If it’s a first gen, you might need to push the power button again to start it, not quite sure on that.

I would say that once you get the text, it should be on your Fire…if not, try restarting it then.
