These will be Amazon’s Black Friday device specials
Amazon gave me advanced notice on what the Black Friday device specials will be. These prices will not be valid until Friday, so I am not giving you links to them now…this is just a heads up so you can plan! 🙂
Update: okay, I’m adding in the links. Please check the price before you click or tap that “Buy” button. The prices listed here may not be the same in your country (I have readers around the world). Also, it’s possible the special price is only on certain configurations of the device…maybe on one size of memory and not on another, maybe on a device with wi-fi only, and not on one with wi-fi and 3G, that kind of thing. I’ll only link to one “flavor” of each one…there are usually buttons on the page to make other selections.

Unlocked means you can use it with different carriers, not just AT&T…many people didn’t buy a Fire Phone initially because of the AT&T partnership. They had the unlocked phone before, but it was much more expensive. This has now pushed the Fire Phone to being (at time of writing) Amazon’s bestselling electronic! That’s an amazing jump: it passed the Chromecast and the Fire TV Stick.]

Fire Phone has always been available unlocked (for $450 more than this price), and I assume there were a few people who sought out carriers other than AT&T prior to this. For example, Cricket (AT&T subsidiary) offers $25/mo unlimited talk+text, plus $9.95 for a SIM card. At $199 (includes $99 Prime subscription) it is an excellent deal.
I just bought one, which I think will be great for my wife.
I’m still holding out for a Voyage deal…

That $49 Mindle is tempting for a loaner. Alas, Christmas is coming and the coffers are low.
I was surprise at the good reviews that the Fire 6 HD is getting. At $79 that is a hell of deal.

Thanks for writing, hsextant!
We do have a Fire HD 6, but I haven’t looked at it much yet. We needed a guest Kindle, and since the Voyage wasn’t going to be available in time, I went with that. It’s being used right now, and for another week or so…after that, I’ll explore it more and write my impressions.

I got my $49 kindle in today and I must say I love the way it feels. The back has a really nice feel to it. I won’t be getting a case for it. I had an extra sleeve and that will work fine. By the way I named my first touch ‘phalanges’. Since you refer to this one as the mindle and it is a touch screen I am calling it ‘Mindle Finger’ LOL. If the Voyage has this same back then I’d like to have one just for that and will when they go to refurbed in a year from now. I don’t mind always being one model behind.

Thanks for writing, Phink!
I love the name! When I used to train basic internet, I would point out to them how the pointer would change into a single finger when hovering over a hyperlink. I would tell them, “At that point, Microsoft gives you the finger.” 😉
