Prime Day (and a half) starts today at noon Pacific

Prime Day (at AmazonSmile: benefit a non-profit of your choice by shopping*)

starts today (Monday, July 16) at noon Pacific. It will continue through midnight on Tuesday, July 17 (just before it becomes Wednesday) Pacific.

There will be lots of bargains, and they won’t all last all day. There are new products being introduced, freebies, all for

members (free trial memberships are available).

This year, I’ve had a couple of people bring up personally to me a strike/boycott against Amazon which goes through Prime Day (meaning that some people are not ordering things through Amazon or using their services).

There are quite a few articles on this, and I would say even more buzz on social media. Here’s a Bing search:

Bing search for “Amazon strike”

One person asked me specifically because they thought I could give the best pro-Amazon argument.

I’m not going to argue for or against joining this action: there will be people who are passionate about it on both sides.

Essentially, the initial impetus for this was European Amazon employees stating concern about how Amazon treats them.

What I’ll do is suggest you consider these two questions:

  • Does Amazon treat its employees (European and otherwise) fairly?
  • If you decide they don’t, will boycotting Amazon affect that situation, and if so, how?

* I am linking to the same thing at the regular Amazon site, and at AmazonSmile. When you shop at AmazonSmile, half a percent of your purchase price on eligible items goes to a non-profit you choose. It will feel just like shopping at Amazon: you’ll be using your same account. The one thing for you that is different is that you pick a non-profit the first time you go (which you can change whenever you want)…and the good feeling you’ll get. :) Shop ’til you help! :)

I feel I got a great Prime Deal on the Show being $129. I ordered one for my wife for Christmas but decided not to waste 5 months of the warranty and gave it to her yesterday. We now have 6 Echo’s (5 hoked up) for our 1,180 square foot home and I’d like to have 1 more, maybe 2, but my wife would think I were insane.

One of our Echo’s is not currently hooked up and not sure what to do with it. It’s the worse one in my opinion, the tap. Once ‘music everywhere’ became available it was mostly obsolete for me because I used it to carry around the house with me listening to tunes or the radio. It also quite often will disconnect from the net and will not work until I hit the power button, turning it red, and turning it back on. I say it’s the worse because it won’t do music everywhere and it goes offline a lot. Maybe it’s just mine, I don’t know.

Now, why do I want so many? Because when listening to music I have it in every room except the laundry room (not needed or wanted) and the bathroom. I want one in there but a little worried about the moisture.

I have an Echo show in my office and the living room/dining room. I have an Echo (1st gen) in the kitchen and bedroom. I have a Dot (2nd gen) in the guest room. I have a tap not hooked up at the moment and not sure what to do with it. Our living room/dining room is about 60% of our home so I’d like another echo on the opposite side of the room as the other one. I want to be surrounded by music and I’ve always said the 1st gen Echo has fantastic speakers considering the size. Is it a Bose? Nope but it’s still excellent sound.

Speaking of Bose a few years ago I paid about $500 for a very nice Bose system that is now also mostly obsolete for me and that’s a shame considering how incredible the sound is. I listen to it some if I know I’ll be in my office without roaming around.

I like dogs, but not when I’m looking for bargains on Prime Day! No matter where I went, I found a cute doggie picture instead of anything I wanted to buy. I tried to check if any of the items on digital music “wish list” were available, but the items were grayed out with no product information listed in the wish list.

I’m shocked Amazon had all these problems. I thought they’d be ready. I’m not mad about it but surprised. I got a new to me Kindle Oasis and could not even register it. It kept saying ‘internal error’ but after a few hours it went through.

This has nothing to do with this but I had to tell you. I’ve been badly wanting the Oasis (the 1st one) since it came out but was wanting the 3G no ads model and no way was I gonna pay high $300’s for it. I considered it many times but felt goofy spending that much on pure luxury.
Side Note: the reason I insist on no ads is because you don’t have to swipe it when opening a case. Open the case and your homepage is there. I love that. The ads never bothered me. It’s the swiping I don’t like.
Anyway, I bought a used one on Amazon. It was listed in good condition with small scratches and was $140 something. I bought it and it’s not good condition. It’s like new condition. I can’t find a single flaw on this thing. However, I might have gotten the wrong order. It was sent from Amazon (Prime eligible) but was supposed to be the merlot cover. It was the black cover which is my least favorite color option. So far I love this kindle. I will probably buy a 2nd charging cover for $17 (used). I just hate that as of now the only used ones are….you guessed it….black. That will give me a backup charge if I need it.
It’s the Oasis which can be sanctuary so I’m naming it after Harry’s safe space or sanctuary Hogwartz.
